My girlfriends cat is a stone-cold killer.
by Low-Key Lysmith ini don't know how to stop her.
we put a bell around her neck so that she makes noise when she moves around but she still manages to kill at least one sparrow or squirrel a day.
i was on the back porch smoking a cigar one afternoon and saw her jump up and catch a low-flying crow right out of the air.

Xandria,
Thanks for that link, I will check it out.
Tal and Billy,
I'm not so ignorant that I don't realize that cats are natural superpredators. I AM, however, an animal lover. I don't want to see other animals needlessly die. Our cat is well fed and cared for. I see no need for 40+ small animals to die every month because my cat wants to help "provide for the pride". I was merely asking for any advice on how to possibly curtail the senseless killing. (I'm sick of cleaning up feathers, bird poop, blood, and guts EVERY DAMN DAY!!!!!!). At the same time, I don't want to keep the cat inside either as I don't feel that it is fair to her since she has become accustomed to being outside whenever she wants. There are a lot of smart people on this board with a lot of great tips on a lot of different things. I was merely trying to see if anyone had any ideas. I don't feel that I need to "get over myself" as Tal put it.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY

This is an absolute outrage. I signed the petition. Those bastards are lucky I'm not in charge over there. If I had my way, I would take anyone caught engaging in that kind of activity, shove a giant hook through their nose & mouth, and toss them over the side of a boat & let them see how it feels. Unbelievable. Captial punishment for people who are cruel to animals!

I don't think declawing is the answer. Barring the pet door would help too, but I have a dog who doesn't kill things that likes to use the pet door. It's not fair to punish a perfectly well-mannered dog because the cat's an asshole.

I don't know how to stop her. We put a bell around her neck so that she makes noise when she moves around but she still manages to kill at least one sparrow or squirrel a day. I was on the back porch smoking a cigar one afternoon and saw her jump up and catch a low-flying CROW right out of the air. The other morning, we were sleeping and heard a really loud squawking and something fluttering against our bedroom door. When Val went out to see what it was, she saw a full-grown bluejay that had been drug in through the pet door and the cat had it cornered in the hallway. I'm sick of all the carnage. We have a pet door in the house so it's hard to keep her inside all the time. I know it comes naturally to cats to explore their predatory instincts, but this is rediculous. She is killing things that are almost as big as she is, then drags them into the house to show off. Any suggestions?

Would You Go To New Orleans' Mardi Gras This Year If You Could?

I wouldn't go to any year's Mardi Gras. I detest vast crowds of obnoxious drunken frat boy douchebags, boobies or no boobies.

by hubert ini go this idea from simons post on bob dylan's documentary.. my first choice would be..... joan baez.... she had the most beautiful voice, and with her excellent guitar picking, didn't need any backup music or singers.. next would be ...peter, paul and mary.

Whats the worst dish you ever served???
by Tez ini am a reasonable cook when i can be bothered (as paulj will hopefully confirm) but often resort to quick and easy methods, packet mixes, tins etc.. whereas my parner is a brilliant cook!!
leave him in the kitchen for a little while and he produces something from scratch that is delicious.
so today i decided to extend my culinary skills!

I made a chicken curry once from some curry powder that a friend had brought back from Morocco. It was in a little plastic sandwich bag and when I went to add it to the mix, the whole bag broke open over the stock pot and the entire contents dumped in. Needless to say, it was not the most palatable dinner to ever grace my table. The sad thing was, I had about ten guests over to help me eat it. Regardless of my protests, they all felt that they had to be polite and eat it anyway. My whole house REEKED of curry for weeks. Since that time, I have not been able to get any of those folks over again for dinner. Oh well, their loss as I really am pretty handy in the kitchen.
